Sky news are suggesting that a Nigerian group are in the process of trying to acquire Newcastle United from chairman Mike Ashley. Should the deal go through they will be reinstating Kevin Keegan as manager.

UEFA president Michel Platini in a newspaper interview has strongly criticised Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger for having a business rather than a football mentality and for calling for more use of videos in ridding the game of dubious decisions. Wenger has continued to sell rather than add experience through the transfer market adopting a policy of bringing youngsters through.

Last season many blamed the lack of experience as the major cause of the Gunners not bringing home the title. Arsenal chairman Hill Wood has made it clear that money is available to the manager but Wenger has not opted for that route. In response to the video issue Wenger said that he is in favour of football justice and Platini should be too.

I’m sure Reading are thrilled they aren’t as they were awarded a phantom goal on the weekend. Replays showed that the ball missed the goals completely but the goal was given and will stand as part of their 2-2 draw.

An FA arbitration has ruled in favour of Sheffield United who are claiming compensation from West Ham for fielding an ineligible player Carlos Tevez who helped them avoid relegation. As a result United were relegated and in accordance therewith are claiming in the region of 30 million pounds. West Ham are still deciding on an appeal which is said to be dependent on the amount that the panel awards when they meet again for this purpose.

Manchester City are today considered to be the richest in the world with the takeover by Sheik Mansour bin Zayed al Nahyan of the Abu Dhabi United Group. Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak says the new owners plan to build a dynasty at Eastlands over the next 10 years.

1. Am I an afro-pessimist for doubting this whole Nigerian business?

2. Wenger treating footy like a business? well if Platini means adopting sound, sustainable practices then yes and thank God,or Snor for it. Would he rather see everyone behaving like Chelski and Citeh?
