It is ridiculous what is happening on and off the field in SA at the moment (and the same can be said for soccer with Kaizer Chiefs fans destroying a section of Newlands). It needs to be cleaned up asap and harsh sanctions imposed. Syed's piece is also quite interesting. Totally agree. It is an open question if the ban will stick. From what I have seen in the past, I doubt it. This huge ban has been a long time coming. That incident was not the only incident of it's kind here in SWD during this season. One other incident involved Heidelberg as well, where their spectators threw the referee with objects. Another incident involved George Rugby club and Groot Brakrivier, where George walked from the field because of continued abuse by one of the administrators of Groot Brakrivier, who also personally took responsibility for the security of the George players. After they walked off, they had to lock themselves in their changerooms until the police could escort them out of there. George got hit with a R 5 000 fine for leaving the field and Groot Brakrivier got R 2 000 for threatening the George players. The reason for the big ban is, in my opinion, only because of that video clip and the fact that it was put on the internet. Heidelberg Rugby Club appealed the ban.
