Why would the Newlands crowd give Earl Rose the bird?

Possibly because of the manner in which he left WP. They developed him to a level where his agent (that would be his father again) could sell him and his younger brother to the highest bidder.

Fair play, it’s a professional game and he should maximise his earnings, but don’t expect the Newlands crowd to take him back into their hearts just yet. They pay for their tickets and are entitled to an opinion.

It’s easy to say we didn’t cruxify Frans Steyn when he was played at number 10 and frankly, did not cut it, when infact evryone said that he should schoose one position and stick to it. Putting him in at 10 in a crunch match, is and was idiotic.

Earl Rose has talent, it’s erratic though, and he should mature first, before being put into a Springbok match. Booing of our own is not good, but I think the viewing public are booing the coach’s selection, rather that Earl and/or Ricky the person!!

Rugby fans will always support the best player for each position, but why should we, the paying public, who in fact pay for their salaries, be happy with players who did not earn the jersey through the season!!

I for one will be singing the whole anthem with pride!!

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a (Golden) Lions fan (Sad, I know) and I quite like Earl, but the fact is he is typical of “Transvaal” rugby, when he is brilliant, he is brilliant, when he sucks, he sucks. There is no middle ground.

And thats the problem - Earl blows hot and cold and you never know what you are gonna get with him. People dont trust him. They feel he is a risk. Everyone makes mistakes, but when its a 50-50 toss-up between brilliance and bullshit and a solid Fransie Steyn Performance, I’d rather take a player that is solid and dependable. I’d rather take a guaranteed 80% performance than half a chance of something potentially world beating.

Still no reason to boo the oak - the only Saffer who ever deserved that honour was Puke Watson.
