The MTN 8 semi-final clash between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday night is going to be a humdinger. The fact that it will be played over two legs makes it even more exciting for both teams, the supporters and the neutrals.

Both sides are on song at the moment, playing some flowing attacking football. They also know each other so well that there’s the possibility of them cancelling each other out. The fans will be holding their thumbs for a flowing game with a lot of goal-mouth action.

The team that’ll win this one and proceed to the final against Ajax Cape Town or Moroka Swallows is Pirates. This game comes at a time when Amabhakabhaka are in good form and a strong and well-balanced team capable of dishing out a good style of attacking football. They have the opportunity to bring joy to their supporters, who are fast running out of patience with the team’s failure to win trophies.

Kaizer Chiefs’ Vladimir Vermezovic is under less pressure than Rudolf Krol. Chiefs were able to win an official trophy last season when they won the Telkom Knockout Cup. Pirates have failed to win anything despite showing a lot of promise.

Krol knows very well that he needs to start winning this season or risk losing his job. For a change the Bucs have signed good players in the right positions and the team looks good and full of commitment.

They have more regular goalscorers in their team, unlike last season when they depended on one or two players. In Isaac Chansa and Daine Klkaite, Pirates have two midfielders who not only create chances but can score goals. They have already shown their potential.

Expect Pirates to win this one and go all the way to lifting the MTN 8 cup.

After an unfortunate injury ended his promising career as a goalkeeper at age 16, Siphiwe Hlongwane started coaching youth football with moderate success. However, since the writing bug caught up with him, all he wants to do is to write about the beautiful game.
