@Ezee-T

Now that "sport" has been cheapened by the big money, honour and integrity has taken a back place
a cheat is still a cheat and a cheat is a thief of honour and integrity.

Unless of course you were jesting in your reply, it is obvious that you have neither honour, or integrity.

@ Ezee-T

Your reply can only be satirical, right? Poen's complaint about de Villiers is *precisely* in the spirit of the game, because cheating (which is *exemplified* in claiming a catch you knowingly dropped) is the precise antithesis of the spirit of the game.

Poen, I agree with you completely. I never saw the incident, but I was listening on BBC Internet Radio at the time and I was unpleasantly shocked. A small, guilty part of me is very glad that AB hasn't been censured for it (perhaps his subsequent story is correct, after all) but I do agree that it should be taken seriously.

The spectacle is king nowadays. The script. The flow. Asking for honesty is just interfering with these hollywood necessities. Take drugs, perform well, look good, break records. That's the formula. You're suggesting someone other than the TV moguls step up and take the games back? Ain't gonna happen.
Why didn't the match referee step up and do the right thing? Surveys have probably shown the average spectator would rather he didn't!!

Thanks for the compliment, Ezee-T. You're quite correct - cricket is "just" a game,but cheating of any sort should be unacceptable, any where, any time. Why should a little bit of cheating on the cricket field, by someone who is a role model to thousands of impressionable youngsters, be regarded with any less disparagement than a little bit of corruption by a politician, or a little bit of fraud by a businessman. "Old guys" like me take little things like standards and honesty and sportmanship and fairness very seriously, indeed. I'm a proud South African and it's what I'd like South Africa to be all about.

Get over it. Theres no need to punish AB for something he never did. And calling someone a cheat is about aas low as you can go. It's just a game, you old guys take this game far too seriously. Your complaint about AB isn't in the spirit of the game, get over yourself. Great article though.
