Poen, while much of what you say is fair, there is no smoke without a fire. The real feeling of wrong-doing started with the whole incident with Schalk being cited in the World Cup.

The thing that irritated me last Saturday was that the All Blacks commited numerous high tackles, drawing the final warning, and then we suffered because of a borderline decision. Sure, the ref warned us, but overall I don’t think it was fair. I am not saying there is a conspiracy against us, but in the eyes of your typical biased (naturally) and probably slightly enibriated fan, why should Matfield leave the field when the All Black didn’t?

Anyway, without these feelings watching rugby would be as boring and non-emotional as tennis.

Thank God it isn’t!!

Objective piece. I agree with you wholeheartedly. I don’t understand why Hoskins, who is in a senior leadership position at Saru and the IRB, do not consult with knowledgeable experts before he makes comments on matters, which is not for him to comment on in the first place. Leave that for the coach, the manager and the captain. I often wonder if basic role confusion isn’t the reason for all the problems in Saru.

POEN - Great piece. The trouble and reality is that all decisions from penalty to Sin Bin to Red Card to Citing will always attract widespread debate and indignation.

The Bismarck Eye Massage of last Saturday, whenever replayed in slow motion always reminds me of the picture time magazine used when describing the goings on of THUGBY, as it encapsulated just that. Balled fist frozen in contact to the side of the face of the recipient - whose eyes were so tight shut that he looked Asian, mouth agape and wrinkles on the face that would have made a Shar Pei breeder proud.
Still, this level of competition and volume of testosterone will attract the odd niggle and altercation. However there are life threatening actions and physics in rugby like high stiff tackles and spear tackles that should be treated mercilessly and swiftly.

But an Eye Massage is tame.
