My usual Sunday morning cycle turned out to be a solitary event because I assume the majority of Gauteng’s cyclists decided to participate in the annual 94.7 cycle race yesterday.

This year’s event probably saw many entrants, most of whom were perhaps new to the sport and encouraged by peers to take part. With the increase of chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes and obesity, it is awesome to witness a vast amount of the population being proactive with regards to their health and wellness.

For instance I often have to slow down or avoid mountain bikers, runners and walkers while riding along the Braamfontein Spruit on Saturdays. Now this congestion may irritate some, but this appears to show me that more people have increasingly chosen to get involved in exercise on a regular basis. I applaud those that are putting the effort in to take care of their health and invite more follow.
