Bafana currently don't have a fare share of "lethal" strikers & Benni knows that. Neither can the pool of PSL clubs supply any for the SA National Team to depend on(Moriri, Khanyeza, & whoever else there is just don't make the grade internationally, unfortunately).

Infact Phil Masinga, Shaun Battlet,Mark Williams (& maybe Jerry Skhosana & Leslie Manyathela) were the last of them dependable forwards Bafana ever had, & Bennie knows that. Any great national soccer team with a respectable Fifa ranking out there has atleast one or two players at it's disposal who can "decide" a game, & Bafana has none & Bennie knows that. (Portugal has Ronaldo & Deco, Ghana has Essien, Italy has Toti, Ivory Coast has Drogba, Argentina has Messi, & Brasil has plenty).

South Africa last had Doctor & Shoes in that league (& Rhee Zuma almost achieved that status but Mashaba wasn't given a chance, unfortunately).

The cause for Bafana's short-coming is obvious, PSL Teams are jus not competitive enough in African Competitions to produce players with an international pedigree, even Teko is untested & the hope put on him might prove too much.

The attitude shown by PSL Teams to African Competitions (like Kaizer Chiefs when shuning the African Champions League this one other time) has relegated the competitive edge of SA players to be below that required for any international stage (like the coming FIFA Competitions). The last time Bafana achived any dominance is such competitions, it was at the back of a PSL team (Orlando Pirates in 1995 to be specific) having competed and won an African Champions League Competition - and then supplied players with an international pedigree for Bafana to have a competitive edge in the 1996 CAF Championship.

So come the FIFA Confedarations Cup this 2009, & the FIFA World Cup in 2010 - Bafana will still be in need of players with an international pedigree... & Bennie knows that!

The bottom line is blogging bloggers..... SAFA was not responsible for Benni's talent. Just recently SAFA officials paid themselves FAT Bonuses for doing nothing. As Jake Black and White says, why not ask SAFA to give YOU the selfsame talent they bestowed on 'ungrateful' Benni. IN short none of you do have the talent to play the game of soccer and reason logically.... Like Mrs Zille and De Lille, your minds has been made up Benni is GUILTY!

Jake, big fat F.

1. Lungani is correct. Benni needed to play for Bafana to get an English work permit. In fact, two seasons before he did finally make his way to England, Benni's mooted move to Middlesborough fell through because he had not satisfied the '70% of your country's fixtures' requirement. So he had to settle for a Celta Vigo to Porto FC move instead because the Portuguese League was a bit more lax in its entry requirements. Benni had spent the previous year doing the same prima donna act he's pulling now. In the 2 seasons he was at Porto FC, Benni suddenly rediscovered his passion for the green-and-gold jersey culminating in his move to Blackburn.

2. Lungani is a brilliant writer. I always look forward to his contributions.

Where was I, Jake? Ah yes; the L on your forehead.

well jake black and not so bright given your title, dubious comments and aparent misunderstanding of the zama fellows blog, it would seem soccer may perhaps not be your area of expertise.

i enjoy a rags to riches success story as much as the next bloke but perhaps its time that leonard mcCarthys nephew learn safa does not make this country and should not diminish the pride with which you ply your trade and remember that there is no greater honour than scrapping for a good 90 for the green and gold. i mean have ever heard of such debacles coming from the likes of eto'o or the didier .. thats right, their footie does the talking.

although this is a rather weighty issue, i still find myself getting down to the ey lekker fish and chips jam and cant wait to blast it for 2010 as i for one have no doubt dat die poppe sal dans ...

Jake, the "passport" referred to is the international career that allows people like Benni to play overseas.
Safa didnt make Benni, but without international caps, you cannot get a work permit.( refer to the Kagisho Digkacoi case with Fulham...)
as for the "middle finger", it refers to Benni not bothering to pitch up, even when his own club passes him fit.
If that is not an F-You, then I don't know what is.
And you can bet your petty five cents comment that he will be fine to play in the Confed Cup and for 2010, all of a sudden.

As for Benni, he must Quinton Fortue, what happen to you when you turn your back against this country. At least, so far he has managed to accumulate enough money that he would not need to go and play in Belgium's Vodacom league, for teh sake of playing in Europe.
We are goign to ensure that he does not make it beyond where he is and that his current team gets relegated, given their disrespect fo rus as a nation and for FIFA regulations.
