The problem is and has been and will ever be - J. Kallis.
People are blinded by his accumulation of statistics and seemingly do not realise that he fails without fail on the big occasions.

Some years ago a great WI cricketer pleaded with SA'ns NOT to discard Kallis and why did he do so?
Because he knew that Kallis in the side meant an early exit for the Proteas - clever oke!

We do not see this and look in awe at his averages and forget again and again the raw disappointment and now look in wonder at Lumb and Kieswetter and Pieterson and forget that we could perhaps have had them in our side.

Never mind:
Here is my selection for the T20WC 2048:
J Kallis.............
H. Gibbs.............
M. Boucher...........
G. Smith.............
JP Duminy............
A Morkel.............

as you can see - plenty talent there.

Thanks for the comment Imran

Botha did certainly do well when he took control of the ODI side in Australia, winning that series and underlining his captaincy credentials.

I think you have a point that he is indeed an option for the limited overs formats, but for the Test team I'm not sure. I can say I would rather have him than Van der Merwe, as hard as he tries.

Interesting thoughts...

I think Johan Botha performed very well, scored very well considering the time he had of batting. Usually the 3 or 4th highest scirer for SA per match.

His bowling record was probaably the best of all the SA bowlers at the T20 World cup.

He is fit and fast, he isn't fat like most of the team

He has captained the T20 side before when Smith was not playing (quite successfully,i think). He was proactive as captain...changing his game based on the situation in the match

So please don't discount him as a potential player for the future or a future captain of SA
